Abstract
661,431. Tubular heat-exchange elements. HUET, A. July 1, 1949, No. 17460/49. Class 64(iii) A fluid deflecting element b, for disposition within a tube a of a tubular heat-exchange apparatus, presents to the wall of the tube asymmetrically undulated surfaces to produce a number of rapid diminutions and slow increases in the cross sectional area of the passage available for the flow of fluid between the element and the tube wall. The element b is solid, hollow or formed from corrugated metal strip, e.g. two corrugated strips c, d welded together at the ends e and, if required, twisted about the axis of the element as in Fig. 5. The undulations are periodic or aperiodic and the element may be asymmetrical as in Fig. 1 or symmetrical as in Fig. 5 in relation to the longitudinal plane between the surfaces. To accommodate the expansion of the fluid entering at A in the tube, the passage for the fluid flow is progressively increased by a general tapering of the element b, as shown in Fig. 1.
