Abstract
659,894. Steam-generator furnaces. NORTH THAMES GAS BOARD, and HIGGINS, A. Jan. 10, 1949, No. 676. [Class 51(i)] In a water tube steam generator of the type having a mechanical stoker, an ignition arch formed in the main furnace arch a short distance ahead of. the point of entry of the fuel. and one or more upwardly directed passages in the furnace brickwork between the fire door and the ignition arch communicating with passages formed in the brickwork above the main furnace arch and discharging into the main stream of hot gases passing to the water tubes. steam nozzles 11 protruding into each of. the passages 9 supply steam at about 30 lbs. per square inch causing hot gases to be drawn beneath the ignition arch 6 over the entering fuel on the grate 1 and through the vertical passage or passages 8 into said passages 9, thus facilitating early ignition of the fuel without excessive heating of the ignition arch 6 or of the main furnace arch 4.
