Class 51(i)- A solid-fuel furnace comprises a combustion chamber 2 and a secondary combustion chamber 17, the latter chamber having one or more tubes 18 arranged across the chamber and provided with diametrically-opposed rows of apertures 19 so that secondary air supplied to the tube or tubes enters the secondary combustion chamber substantially perpendicularly to the general direction of flow of gases through the chamber. Air is supplied to an air distribution box 14 through an aperture 13, part then passing into the open ends of tube 18, part passing through a water-tube wall 5 into the combustion chamber 2 and part passing through aperture 16 and flowing to the fire through the slag bed S. The rear wall 6 of the combustion chamber 2 is also formed of water tubes. Specifications 698,097, 698,099 and 698,100 are referred to.
