Abstract

Pulverulent-fuel furnaces. - In a water-tube boiler furnace of the kind in which the combustion chamber is enclosed by water tubes, fuel is introduced into the lower part of the combustion chamber and air for combustion is introduced below the fuel in streams which impinge upon each other so as to produce turbulence and an ascending helical current. Fuel with carrying air is introduced through jets u, Fig. 1, directed tangentically to a circle having its centre on the axial line of the combustion chamber while air enters through ducts t arranged similarly to the fuel jets. The sides of the combustion chamber are formed by tubes h connected to upper and lower headers i, k in turn connected to upper and lower drums a, b connected by tubes o, p to horizontal headers m, n to which the tubes l forming the front wall of the combustion chamber are attached. The rear wall is formed by tubes c backed by a baffle d above which the gases from the combustion chamber pass and thence over down comer tubes f to the flue e containing a superheater q and air heater from which air passes through a duct s to the ducts t.
