Abstract

659,131. Metal rectifiers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. April 14, 1949, No. 10122. [Class 37] A metal rectifier comprises a sealing ring 4 of resilient insulating material, e.g. rubber, embracing the periphery of the rectifier element, means for enclosing at least the counter electrode side 3 of the rectifier plate and means for clamping both edges of the sealing ring in position. The rectifier disc comprises a metal base-plate 1, coated with selenium 2 and a layer 3 of low melting-point alloy as described in Specification 526,482. The ring 4 embraces the edge of the disc and a dished cover-plate 5 is placed over the counter-electrode 3 and its edge rolled over the ring 4 as shown. Connections 7 and 8 and the necessary insulations are provided, the rectifier being insulated by a paper tube 10 encircling a rivet 9. In a modification, as shown in Fig. 5, there are two plates 15 and 16, one on either side, holding the ring 4.
