Abstract
659,090. Converting. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Sept. 1, 1948, No. 23009. Convention date, Oct. 23, 1947. [Class 38 (ii)] [Also in Group XL (a)] In an arc discharge device, an insulated conducting deionizing grid is arranged to screen the cathode, with which a make-alive electrode is in contact, and an auxiliary anode from the major part of the ionizable vapour filling. The devices may be used in a frequency-changer for supplying induction heaters of electric furnaces. The ignition electrodes 4, Fig. 2, are fed at the supply frequency with unidirectional impulses from the circuit 5, the archolding electrodes 6 are fed from the supply 7 so as to be operative over a period of 120 degrees, and the control grids 9, 10 are fed with the desired high-frequency potential either from the transformer 11 or from the output, which comprises the transformer 21 and a tuned circuit including the load 24.
