Abstract

658,936. Two-part couplings. TURNOCK, Ltd., G. July 26, 1949, No. 19591. [Class 38 (i)] In a shuttered socket unit, the shutter 15 slides on the underside of the cover of the unit and is primarily displaced from its shielding position by a pivoted lever 19 being engaged at one end 24 by the earth pin of a plug, final displacement of the shutter being effected by the engagement with it of one or both live pins on the plug. The shutter is guided by ribs 16 and is retained by an insulating plate 17, Fig. 3. The lever engages a boss 26 on the shutter having a D-shaped hole 27 for one live pin, the flat part of said hole being chamfered at 28 for engagement by said pin after the primary displacement. Preferably the trailing edge of the shutter is chamfered at 31 for engagement by the other live pin to assist the final displacement. On removal of the plug a torsion spring 21 coaxial with the lever pivot returns the shutter, the lever bearing on a pin 22 thereon.
