657,571. Strain clamps for electric conductors. NECK, C. G. Dec. 9, 1948, No. 31909. Convention date, Jan. 5. [Class 109] In a strain clamp for steel-aluminium conductors comprising an inner steel core clamp 1 having an eye 3 integral therewith and an outer aluminium clamp 4-6-8 with a connection skirt 7, the aluminium clamp is held fast on the steel core clamp and the conductor only by pressing the former first around the conductor and then around the steel core clamp at right angles to the longitudinal direction of the conductor. The steel core clamp 1 comprises a hollow steel cylinder and the aluminium clamp comprises an aluminium tube having outer, middle and inner parts 4, 6 and 8 covering respectively the part 5 of the steel core clamp adjacent the eye, the inner part of the steel core clamp and the aluminium cover 9 of the conductor. The part 5 of the steel core clamp is preferably rough, e.g. rifled or corrugated. The aluminium clamp is preferably produced by die casting from pure aluminium and the skirt 7 is welded thereto. After the steel core clamp has been pressed on to the core, the aluminium clamp is passed thereover up to the eye 3 and is pressed firstly on to the aluminium wires 9 from left to right which can move into a gap between them and the steel core clamp 1 and finally on to the part 5 of the steel core clamp also from left to right. This end may then be caulked against water infiltration.
