Abstract
612,059. Cable sleeves; couplings. DAVEY, E. L., CREDLAND, F. R., and GLOVER & CO., Ltd., W. T. May 16, 1946, No. 14869. [Classes 36 and 38 (i)] In a 'method of providing a cable core 6, termination or joint with a profiled body of laminated dielectric, the wrapping 8 is of paper and has one or both ends flat and is perforated along a line extending helicoidally from a point near the internal surface of the wrapping at a flat end to a point on the external surface of the wrapping nearer to the other end. The paper between the flat end and the line of perforation is removed by unwrapping it and tearing it off as indicated at 2, 3. This leaves a wrapping having a tapered surface, the profile being determined by the shape of the line of perforation. The wrapping may be left with one end flat, or one end may be pre-shaped, or both ends may be perforated as indicated in the Figure, and it may be applied to the cable core by being threaded on or by passing the core between the convolutions prior to the tearing process.
