Abstract

251.679. Twiss Electric Transmission, Ltd., and Dean, G. H. Jan. 28, 1925. Sleeve couplings; connectors.-A connector for mechanically and electrically jointing together wires, rods, and cables &c. comprises a single smooth slit sleeve 1, adapted to surround the ends of the wires &c. and having externally tapering ends 4, and means for causing said sleeve to bind on the wires consisting of two outer tubular members 10, 11, each having an inferior conical surface 12 and provided with interengaging screw-threads. The sleeve is preferably provided with several longitudinal slits, one 5 of which extends along the whole length of the sleeve while the other 6 are cut from each end towards the middle of the sleeve leaving a small neck 17 of metal. Alternatively, the slits may extend nearly to the other end, the slits from one end alternating with those from the opposite end. The bore of the sleeve may be formed with an inner shoulder 7, the two sides of which serve as abutments for the wires to be jointed. In connecting a branch cable C<1> to a continuous cable C<2>, or to a terminal, the member 10 is provided with an extension 14, while the ends of a plurality of wires may be connected by casting the body of the connector with a plurality of tubular members 10 disposed at the desired angles.
