Abstract
656,682. Cathode-ray tubes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO., Ltd. July 7, 1948, No. 18299. [Class 39 (i)] The envelope of a cathode-ray tube comprises a rectangular face-plate F and a circular neck N, connected by a portion which is partly conical at the neck end C and partly rectangular in cross-section at the end B which joins the face-plate, the two parts merging into each other on hyperbolic curves J. In the preferred form, mild steel parts B, C are welded together along the curves J, or along longitudinal edges when the connecting portion consists of two like halves; alternatively, the portion comprising integral parts B, C may be produced by hydraulic pressing. The rectangular part may have convex sides. Steel sealing ribbons, secured in a step or groove in the glass plate F and in the part B respectively, are brazed together by silver copper alloy. Dimensions are specified.
