Abstract
919,767. High frequency tubes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. March 17, 1960, No. 9400/60. Class 39 (1). In a travelling wave tube or other electron beam tube there is provided a tubular metal envelope portion 7 extending beyond the end of the electron beam path, a metal exhaust tube 10 having a head 11 serving as a collection surface slanting away from the electron beam path, a hermetic seal 16 and one or more exhaust passages through head 11 communicating with the bore of the exhaust tube 10, the arrangement being such that there is no straight passage parallel to, or on the axis of, the beam path into the tubulation. The collecting face 12 is spaced from a sloping shoulder 13 and a solder sealing-ring 16 is located behind shoulder 15. Secondaries and reflected primaries are trapped in chamber 14. The exhaust tube 10 which is a copper tube has a protective cap over the squeezed-cff exhaust pip 19. An axial focusing magnetic field is provided.
