Abstract
656,326. Preventing corosion. DOW CHEMICAL CO. Jan. 5,1949, No. 336. Convention date, Jan. 7, 1948. Drawings to Specification. [Class 123(i)] A free-flowing powder composition for surrounding the anode in a cathodic protector system for underground pipes consists of 70 to 89 per cent by weight of powdered gypsum, 25 to 10 per cent powdered bentonite, and 5 to 1 per cent of a watersoluble salt of a metal, e.g. sodium sulphate. Other salts mentioned are magnesium sulphate, potassium sulphate, and sodium chloride. The composition surrounds the anode, which is of magnesium or a magnesium-base alloy, and which is buried in, the earth and is connected electrically with the pipe to be protected. The composition may be carried in a water permeable carton, e.g. of paper.
