Abstract

653,992. Boxes. COOK & SON, Ltd.. M., and VARLOW, R. J. Aug. 27, 1948, No. 22673. [Class 18] A box or basket of the drawer and shell type consists of a collapsable tray, having a central partition member 9, the top part 12 of which is hinged at 11 and is formed with an aperture 13 to serve as a handle. and a tubular rectangular shell which slides over the tray and has a slot in its upper wall through which the handle may pass, the handle then being folded down about the line 11 for stacking. The tray may be formed from a single piece of material having a bottom 5 and four sides 1 ... 4, the longer sides 2 and 4 comprising extensions 6 which are stapled 7 to the end walls. The sides 2 and 4 are weakened or scored from the bottom corners in a diagonal direction 8 so that the tray may be collapsed. The top edges of the sides are folded over to form double thicknesses 20. The partition is formed from a doubled thickness having flaps 10 along its bottom edges stapled to the tray bottom. Side lugs 14, bent in opposite directoins, enter behind ears 15 formed from straps stapled to the longer sides of the tray, when the box is set up. The tray and shell may be provided with ventilating holes 19.
