Abstract

652,197. Liquid fuel lighters. KILBURN, A. Nov. 26, 1948, No. 30665. [Class 75(iii)] A liquid fuel lighter comprising a liquid fuel reservoir 11 and a housing 12 for absorbent material has the remote ends of such housing and reservoir connected by a duct 29-28-30 to prevent flooding of the wick. The absorbent material may be recharged with fuel by tilting the lighter. The fuel may be contained in a capsule which may be opened before insertion in the lighter body or alternatively be opened after insertion in the lighter by screwing home the filling plug 15. The reservoir 11 and housing 12 may be in the form of separate tubes fitted into the lighter body, and the tube forming the reservoir 11 may be made of a transparent material to enable the fuel level to be observed through a cutaway portion of the lighter body. The lighter body may be built up of sections 10a, 10b, and 10d of transparent materials of contrasting colours, a metal bottom plate 10c and a metal top block 17 containing the wick and friction wheel. The snuffer cap is held in the open or closed position by means of a spring pressed ball 25 engaging notches 26 or 27 in the rear end of the cap.
