Abstract
652,148. Expelling dust in industrial processes. SPEIER, F., (trading as KNITCRAFT MILLS). Dec. 21, 1948, Nos. 32934 and 32935. Convention dates, Dec. 24, 1947, and Sept. 13, 1948. [Class 8(ii)] [Also in Group VIII] In a knitting machine comprising, one or more flat beds 1, 2, Fig. 2, of independent needles (see Group VIII), and a cam carriage 9 adapted to be reciprocated lengthwise of the beds, compressed air from a flexible hose 45 flows through ducts 46, 47, a valve 48, ducts 49, 50, 55, 56, 58 on the carriage 9 to nozzles 57, 59 adjacent the knitting cams to blow lint therefrom. The nozzles are located ahead of the knitting cams and are tipped away therefrom and the blast is intermittent, being controlled by a normally closed valve 62, in the duct 55, which is opened when a lever 63 is tripped by a cam plate 64 secured to a yarn change slide 38 when in the feeding position. The carriage 9 is reciprocated from a chain 11, Fig. 1, through a drive arm 12 and is released from the latter on meeting any obstruction by a mechanism 17 of known construction, whereupon an arm 18 rocks upwardly and carries with it the duct 47 and valve 48 thereby breaking the connection with the duct 49. In a modification the compressed air is supplied from a stationary hose 74, Fig. 10, a solenoid valve 73, a duct 75 and a' cylinder 83 to a reeled hose 72 and thereafter to a coupling comprising a socket 76 and a spigot 77 on the carriage. Extra nozzles 67, 69 blow air below the jacks. The coupling 76, 77 is made only when lint is being blown away and is effected by a plunger 82 in the cylinder 83 bearing against a plate 84 on which is mounted the socket 76, and is broken when a latch 85 also secured to the plate 84 disengages from a latch 86 on the latch 85 being raised by a roller 90 riding on a bevel cam 89 carried by the cylinder 83. The solenoid valve 73 is opened when a switch 70 is actuated by a yarn carrier slide stop arm 43, the setting of which controls the duration of the blast. The valve 73 also allows flow of air to the cylinder 83 to project the piston 82 for the coupling of the socket 76 and spigot 77.
