Abstract
651,927. Winding yarn. SCRAGG & SONS, Ltd., E., and SCRAGG, E. R. July 28, 1948, No. 20100. [Class 120(ii)] In a yarn winding and twisting machine of the kind in which the yarn drawn from a bobbin is wound into a package on a horizontal tube mounted to rest on a horizontal driving roller below it, e.g. an uptwister, there is mounted on the axis of the driving roller 7 a frame 8 having a member 10 crossing the roller 9 from end to end, the frame 8 being so balanced that when free to move, by the operation of a trip device when the yarn breaks, it will bring the member 10 beneath the package. 11 and lift it from the roller 7. A rod 12 on the frame 8, which biasses it into a " stopping" position, is normally supported by an arm 14 pivotally supported at 16 and counter-weighted at 17. When a yarn breaks, a rod 22, normally supported thereby, swings to position itself as shown in the dotted lines, so that the traversing mechanism, supported by the rod 19 will, through the rod 22, swing the arm 14 from contact with the rod 12, permit the frame 8 to swing clockwise and stop the drive to the package. In a modification, Fig. 4, the rod 12 is normally supported by a plate 25 provided with a slot 26, 27 and pivotally supported at 24. Upon breakage of a yarn, the rod 22 depresses the plate 25 by contact with a cam portion 28, so releasing the roll 12 from the slot 27 and allowing the frame 8 to stop the drive to the package.
