Spun yarn is wound on a spool 41 mounted on tilting arms 42, a switch 5 is associated with the arms 42 and operated by an operating part 45 on the arm 42 to enable an attendant to control the fibre feed with the same hand that he lifts the winding spool while leaving the other free to feed the yarn end into the spinning chamber. The circuit of the switch 5 has a latching relay 50 and bypasses a yarn tension feeler 3 so that feed of fibre may be effected despite there being no yarn tension. When yarn tension is restored the feeler 3 switches over delatching the relay 50 and hence operating thereafter as a stop motion. The switch may be incorporated in the arm 42 the operating part then being a button (81) mounted thereon, Fig. 4 (not shown). The arm 42 may be maintainable in its elevated position by a fixed ratchet wheel 6, Fig. 3, in cooperation with a paw1 60 mounted on the arm and serving also as the operating part. The switch may alternatively be incorporated with the stop motion feeler and operated by a coaxial operating cable, Fig. 2 (not shown).
