Abstract
650,679. Air vessels for reciprocating pumps. FLUOR CORPORATION, Ltd. Nov. 26, 1946, No. 35053. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1945. [Class 102(i)] [Also in Group XXIX] An arrangement for eliminating pulsations in a liquid stream having a continuous pulsating flow through a conduit comprises a pair of hydraulic accumulators each connected to the conduit at spaced locations therealong, the accumulators ,being closed except for the connections and another valve controlled connection to each chamber supplying gas under pressure the gas compressing and expanding in response to increasing and decreasing pressure in the liquid in the conduit and a tube in the conduit between the connections. Fig. 1 shows a cross-section of an hydraulic accumulator 11 of the type employing a flexible bladder 15a filled with gas under pressure supplied through a pressure regulating valve 20. The valve maintains the pressure at a desired value which can be adjusted. Any suitable known valve may be used to maintain a constant pressure in the accumulator. The liquid may be on the inside of the bladder. Fig. 4 shows two accumulators 11 connected to a conduit 10 a restriction 26 being located between them. There may be an additional restriction in the conduit either upstream or downstream of the accumulators. The restriction may comprise either a very short or a relatively elongated tube. The pressure of the gas in the accumulators can be adjusted to suit the fluctuations of pressure likely to be encountered. Details of pressures, pipe sizes &c. for specific installations are given. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also arrangements in which a single restriction is associated with a single accumulator. Restrictions comprising a tube 25 of relatively elongated form, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), may be employed. Arrangements are also shown comprising two accumulators associated with one or two restrictions but not including a restriction between the accumulators. The restriction may be in the form of an orifice plate. A restriction may be located in the connection between the conduit and an accumulator. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
