Abstract

649,841. Maps, charts and diagrams. HOGLANDER, N. G., MOBERG, T. F., and PALM, A. O. June 22, 1948, No. 16744. [Class 146 (ii)] A foldable sheet for use as a map diagram or programme comprises a primary folding line passing through the centre of the sheet, four secondary folding lines extending from the perimeter of the sheet to meet in one or two points on the primary folding line, the primary folding line bisecting the angle between the secondary folding lines, and eight tertiary folding lines extend from adjacent edges of the sheet to meet in a common point or in pairs on the secondary folding lines the directions of the folds being arranged so that a single turn folds the whole together into a space only a fraction of the unfolded state. A square sheet 1 has diagonal secondary folding lines A1OC1 and B1OD1, primary folding line IOI1, and tertiary folding lines EA, EIA, FB, F1B, GC, G1C, HD, H1D perpendicular to the sides meet on the diagonals, the folding lines IO, I1O and A1A, B1B, C1C, D1D being towards the front of the sheet and all others to the rear. A cover 2, 21 may be secured to the sections OAEHD and OBFGC as by adhesive, the whole folding together when the two covers are moved towards each other to lie within these sections. In a modification of Fig. 1, for a rectangular sheet, the sheet is extended top and bottom, the folding lines AE1, OI, BF1, DH1, OI1 and CG1 being extended to the edges of the sheet. In a further modification for a rectangular sheet, the secondary folding lines A1OC1 and B1OD1 are bisected by the primary folding line IOI1 parallel to the shorter side and the tertiary folding lines AE1, BF1, CG1 and DH1 meet the edges of the longer sides at an oblique angle. In a further modification for a square sheet, the tertiary folding lines meet at the centre O, the lines being at the same angle either side of the diagonals and of the primary folding line. In a further modification using a rectangular sheet, the primary folding line is parallel to the longer side, the secondary folding lines meet in pairs at spaced points on the primary folding line, the tertiary folding lines being perpendicular to the sides. Any of the described sheets may be cut in half, along a line perpendicular to the primary folding line.
