Abstract

649,057. Gas filters. HOBSON, A. G., and BRITISH FILTERS, Ltd. June 7,1948, No. 15338. [Class 8(ii)] [Also in Group I] A filter element comprises a cylindrical former l, one end c being turned inwardly to form a flat surface having a central opening and the other end being provided with a flange m also having a central opening, the former together with the inturned end being covered with a fibrous covering such as cotton linters and/or asbestos fibres, thereby enabling the elements to be assembled end to end to form a substantially continuous filtering surface. Both ends of the element may be turned in or instead of the flanged end a cap may be provided having a central flanged opening and embracing a small margin of the cylindrical surface of the filter element. The complete filter may be supported by a rod n on a baffle plate h in a casing. The element may be made by pressure or suction from a suspension of fibres. The suspension may contain a heat hardenable resinous bond, the fibrous covering, after drying, being hardened by heat treatment. When both ends are turned in the elements may be stacked on a perforated pipe screwing into the plate h and secured by a small cap and wing nut at the lower end.
