648,691. Gas-producers. SOC. DISTIBOIS. Aug. 1, 1947, No. 21055. Convention date, Nov. 21, 1939. [Class 55(i)] Wood, peat, lignite or the like is fed to the upper zone A-B of a gas-producer G in which it is distilled by hot gases rising from the gasification zone B-C, the distillation gases being mixed with steam at E and passed through a cracking chamber D, the resultant gases and excess steam being supplied at I to the gasification zone from which the final gas is taken off at T. The heat of the cracking chamber D may be provided by partial combustion of the process gases, air being admitted with the steam, or the chamber may be heated externally. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 476,879.
