Abstract
531,288. Gas manufacture. DIDIER-WERKE AKT.-GES. July 17, 1939, No. 20704. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1938. [Class 55 (i)] In a process for the generation of synthesis gas for the production of motor fuel and other synthetic products, solid fuels for example lignite, brown coal, or peat are carbonized in continuously operated retorts, being charged into a preheating chamber 8, the distillates from an upper zone a flowing downwards to a roof-shaped offtake 11 from the underside of which they pass to an outlet 13. The temperature of the lower part of zone a is 500‹C. to 600‹C., and that of the highest temperature zone b is from 800‹C. to 1000‹C., an offtake 14 from this zone leading to an outlet 16 into which water gas from the lowest zone c also passes. The low temperature distillates from outlet 13, after removal of light oils and benzol, are mixed with the carbon-monoxide and hydrogen from outlet 16. These mixed gases are converted into liquid fuels to which anti-knock properties are given by admixture with a portion of the aromatic hydrocarbons recovered from the low temperature distillates.
