Abstract

648,516. Ball joints. METALASTIK, Ltd., and HIRST, A. J. Nov. 3, 1948, No. 28521. [Class 65(ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] In a resilient mounting, (see Group XXXII), in which intermediate plates of a pair of interleaved rubber springs arranged in inverted V-formation on opposite sides of a loading member, are interconnected by tie-rods, the ends of each tie-rod are connected to the corresponding plates through spherical type hinges. As shown, each hinge comprises a pair of buttons 45, 45, the outer part spherical surfaces of which engage complimentary curved surfaces 47 on a collar 48 rigid with the tierod 43 and on a loose collar 49, the buttons being secured in place over the rod on either side of an intermediate plate 27, by a washer 50 and nuts 51, 52. The clearance between the rod and the buttons, is such as to permit slight angular movement of the former-relative to the plate 27.
