Abstract
648,129. Frequency modulation. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1948, No. 30918. Convention date, Nov. 29, 1947. [Class 40 (v)] In order to reduce the response of a F.M. receiver when off-tune, the rectifiers 9, 10 of a phasing or other discriminator of normal type are provided with control grids 20, 21, each of which is connected to its own cathode by an audio byepass condenser 23, 25, and to the opposite cathode by a resistor 22, 24. When the receiver is slightly mis-tuned, there is a D.C. voltage between the two cathodes, which is transferred to the opposite grids, in such sense as to reduce the current flowing through the more active rectifier. In this way, the off-tune output of the receiver is reduced below its normal in-tune output, and correct tuning may be obtained by listening for maximum output.
