Abstract
648,015. Aerials. HARGREAVES, L. S., and AERIALITE, Ltd. Oct. 8, 1947, No. 27042. [Class 40 (vii)] An aerial for reception or transmission of vertically polarized waves of high frequency (e.g. television) that can be mounted in a room or loft comprises a vertical rod element 3, a quarter-wavelength long, secured in a hole 2 in a block of insulating material by means of the terminal bolt 11. An L-shaped metal bracket 5 has a vertical part 5a attached to the said insulating block by means of four bolts 8, the lower two of which serve to secure two horizontal quarter-wavelength rods in holes 4 respectively. These bolts also connect the two horizontal rods electrically via the metal bracket, thereby constituting a counterpoise earth. An aperture 6 is cut out of the bracket to clear the terminal 11. The horizontal limb 5b of the bracket has holes 10 for securing it to the floor or a rafter. The outer ends of the horizontal rods are supported clear of the floor or rafters by means of slidable annular insulators (not shown).
