Abstract
646,265. Hinges. DESMO, Ltd. Aug. 31, 1948, No. 22879. [Class 65(ii)] [Also in Group XXXII] A mounting for a vehicle driving mirror comprises an arm on which the mirror is mounted provided with a depending or upstanding shank or pin in combination with an attachment bracket carrying a vertical bearing sleeve engaged by the shank or pin to form a swivel joint, the sleeve having, in its top and bottom ends, recesses or rebates which house and enclose friction washers threaded upon the shank or pin and disposed between a shoulder or abutment on the latter and a nut on a threaded end of the shank or pin, so that a stiff joint is produced. The mirror is mounted on an arm 1 secured by a split clamp 4 and a nut 8 to the upper portion of a pin 5 which is provided at a point intermediate its ends with a fixed circular collar 7. The lower portion of the pin 5 is passed through a vertical hole 9 in a projecting boss 6a of a bracket 6 secured to the side of a vehicle. The upper and lower faces of the boss 6a are provided with annular recesses 11 to accommodate fibre washers 12, 13 which are capped by brass washers 14, 15 adjustably clamped between the collar 7 and a nut 17 to ensure a friction grip of the pin 5 so that the mirror may be frictionally secured in selected positions.
