Abstract
644,238. Tractor cabs. BATES, R. E. July 5, 1948, No. 18054. [Class 108(i)] A tractor cab fitted with front, rear and side openings giving all-round vision is characterized in that observation apertures are provided at the front and arranged so as to be disposed on opposite sides of the tractor engine and extend downwards from the top thereof, in order that the front wheels may be visible from the interior of the cab to facilitate steering. As shown. the apertures consist of downward extensions 12 of the sides of the frame of the front window 11 and inclined tunnel openings 15 formed between the sides of the cab and the engine. To reduce draught these openings may be closed by shutters 16, which are preferably transparent. Vertically sliding windows may be provided in the side openings 10, and the front window 11 may be raised and retained inposition by guide tracks 23 in the roof of the cab. The opening 8 in the rear of the cab may be closed by a vertically slidable shutter 9 composed of articulated sections 27 and embodying a window 26. When raised the shutter engages guide tracks 29 extending along the roof of the cab. In both the closed and open positions the windows and shutter are secured by spring-pressed plungers to reduce rattling. Rear wheel guards 40 are so positioned as to serve as armrests for the driver when leaning out of either side opening.
