Abstract
643,385. Pistons. AKTIEBOLAGET GOTAVERKEN. Dec. 22, 1947, No. 33867. Convention date, Dec. 27, 1946. [Class 122(i)] The head of a piston comprising a skirt 1 of light metal and a head 2 of steel or other heat resistant material, is provided with one or more rings 7 and is recessed at 11 to receive a corresponding part 9 of the skirt to provide direct metallic contact between the skirt and head behind the rings 7. At normal temperatures a small clearance 10 exists but at working temperatures direct contact takes place due to differing coefficients of expansion. The skirt 1 is provided with rings 8 and is centrally bored to receive a central boss depending from the head 2, the boss being provided with ring 12 to bridge the gap at working temperatures. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 also describes a similar piston without the recess 11 and portion 9 and includes a chamber in the head behind the ring 7. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
