Abstract

643,043. Brushes; bristles fixing. LENG, A. S. Dec. 10, 1947, No. 32563. [Class 19] A painting, distempering or like brush,. of the kind in which an assembly of bristles is secured at one end within a sheet metal ferrule, is provided with a metal plate corresponding in shape and size to the cross-section of the ferrule and secured within the ferrule in contact with the innerends of the bristles, the periphery of the plate being formed with a lip which tightly fits the ferrule or engages an indented groove in the ferrule. The arrangement enables thin metal ferrules to be employed while obviating the usual need for rivets. As shown, bristles a are secured in a thin metal ferrule b by means of cement, a sheet metal plate c inserted, pressed into contact with the bristle ends and cemented in position. The plate c has a lip d formed around its periphery engaging an indented groove e formed in the ferrule. According to the Provisional Specification the provision of a lip is optional.
