Abstract

641,448. Knitting-machines. COTTON, Ltd., W. Aug. 22, 1947, No. 23276. Drawings to Specification. [Class 74 (ii)] The cams operating the needles, sinkers, knock-over bits and deflecting member for the lower set of needles of a straight-bar machine for producing a run-resistant fabric as described in Specification 527,234, are shaped so that for each revolution of the cams the instruments are operated to enable a body yarn to be knitted and further operated to lock the body yarn with a locking yarn. The invention is described in connection with a machine described in Specification 641,433, in which the slurcocks are traversed over two divisions of the needles and in which a body yarn and a locking yarn are fed to the needles one after the other in the same direction of traverse, and in connection with a machine described in Specification 641,447, in which the deflecting member is operated to deflect the lower set of needles so that their heads enter eyes in the stems of the upper set during the production of the run-resistant fabric.
