Abstract
627,855. Knitting. HEMPHILL CO. Aug. 21, 1946, No. 24925. Convention date, Sept. 13, 1945. [Class 74 (ii)] A wrap yarn is fed to a plurality of consecutive selected needles ; a second wrap yarn to at least one of these needles whilst maintaining the first wrap yarn upon their latches ; a body yarn to at least all the selected needles (e.g. to all the needles) ; and all the yarns are knitted simultaneously at the same point. This produces (e.g. in a stocking) a colour - within - colour pattern 14 superimposed on a wrap pattern 13 and without the usual one needle gap in the wrap pattern on each side of the colour-within-colour. The fabric is knitted and the wrap and colour-within-colour patterns produced as in Specifications 600,921 and 601,676, the second wrap yarn and body yarns being fed respectively above and below the first wrap yarn and all yarns knitted by at least two consecutive needles being drawn over the backs of sinkers. The body fabric may be a plated fabric produced as in Specification 600,947.
