Abstract

640,734. Cylinders. NESFIELD, A. C. Jan. 28, 1948, Nos. 2548 and 10333. [Class 7(ii)] The side 19 of an inlet passage 18, as seen in a plane passing through the valve axis and extending along the passage, is straight and inclined to the valve port. If the opposite side 21 is parallel, it is connected by a curved or further straight part to the valve port, the side walls in the latter case being bulged to maintain contsant crosssection, but the passage may be convergent. Inlet and exhaust valves may be arranged side by side in a widened chamber. In a side valve engine the upper part of the inlet passage is straight. Specification 438,470 is referred to.
