[Class 112] A ruffling attachment comprises a casing 16 which is secured by the screws 15, in place of the usual face plate, on the head of the machine and operates to cause the forward movement of the ruffling blade 23 during the upward' movement of the needle. The blade 23 is pivoted at 25 to a lever arm 22 and is pressed on to the work by a spring around the, pivot. The arm 22 and a lever 43 are fixed on opposite ends of a rock shaft 20 mounted in the casing 16. A lever 37, mounted in the casing 16, is connected by a link 38 to the needle-bar and carries a rod 41 parallel with the lever 43 to which it is connected by a block 42 slidingly mounted in a slot 44 in the lever 43. The stroke of the ruffling blade is varied by moving the block 42 by means of a link 50 connected to an adjusting lever 49, 54. The block can be brought up to the axis of the lever 37 to stop the ruffling action and, in this position, the arm 49 through a link 51 turns a lever 52, 34 in to position to engage an pin 33 and turn the ruffling blade upwards. The ruffling blade co-acts with a stationary plate 26 supported above the work-plate by a rod 27 secured to the casing 16. The forward ends of the blade 23 and plate 26 are serrated. In a modified ruffler, Fig. 8, the ruffling material is fed through a guide 61 on an inclinde plate 60 and a resilient blade 65 engages the material on the plate 60 below the guide.
