In a sewing machine comprising a bracket arm 3 terminating in a head 4, a needle bar 23 mounted in the head, a rock lever 25 pivoted intermediate its ends at 27 in the bracket arm and connected to the needle arm for imparting reciprocation to the latter, and a trimmer bar 47 mounted for reciprocation in the head, the trimmer bar is connected by a link 69 to one arm 72 cf a bell crank lever pivoted at 78 in the bracket arm, and the other arm 81 of the bell crank lever is connected by a link 84 to a crank arm 94 on the rock lever 25. A collar 67 on the trimmer bar, and to which link 69 is connected, has an arm 66 which engages a flat 65 on a rod 63 fixed in the head, to prevent turning of the needle bar. The pivot 88 between link 84 and crank arm 94 is adjustably fixed in a slot 93 in the latter to vary the stroke of the trimmer bar. A bracket 50, secured to the lower end of the latter, has spaced ears 54, 55 which journal a rod 56 carrying at one end a split head 57 in which the trimmer blade 46 is secured by a screw 58. A collar 59 on rod 56 is grooved at its upper surface to engage bracket 50 for preventing turning of rod 56. A spring 61 mounted on rod 56 biases blade 46 against a ledger blade 34. The latter passes through a transverse slot 42 in a cylindrical body 41 clamped in the upper end of a bracket 35 secured in the base 1 of the machine. Blade 34 is clamped against the end of slot 42 by a body 43 urged thereagainst by a screw 44 threaded axially through body 41. Work supports. The throat plate 8 is cut away at its inner front corner, as at 45, to provide for location of the cutting edge of blade 34 adjacent the point of stitch formation.
