Abstract
640,271. Feedwater heaters. VERGOTTIS, P. P. July 8, 1947, No. 17967. Convention date, April 3, 1946. [Class 64(i)] A boiler feedwater heater comprising a bank of water tubes 32 connected at their opposite ends to headers 22, 24 and heated by combustion gases is pivotally mounted at 65 so that it can turn under stresses due to heat expansion and contraction. In the form shown, two such heaters 10, 12 are connected together and to the walls of the boiler flue or smoke box by pivotal links 74, 80. In each heater, the headers are connected together by rods 26, and are subdivided by partitions 34, 36 which cause the feedwater to take a sinuous course through the tubes from the inlet 30 to the outlet 35. Drainage plugs 90 are provided. The supply pipe 18 is connected to the inlet 30 of one heater and to an air vessel 40 with a safety valve 48 and air and water outlet pipes 58.
