Abstract
329,769. South Metropolitan Gas Co., Skinner, A. J., and Lamprey, P. C. April 6, 1929. Heating by indirect contact of hot waste g a s e s ; multitubular boilers; vertical boilers. -In a boiler heated by hot gases led through a flue tube 6 into a smokebox 5 arranged between the boiler end-plates and connected by smoketubes 9 to an outlet chamber 10, as described in Specification 324,111, the smokebox is formed separate from the boiler shell and preferably with corrugated sides to allow expansion. The tubes 11 connecting the smokebox to the top of the boiler are closed by removable plugs 12. Feedwater is supplied through nozzles d at the upper ends of downcomer tubes 13 each of which is forked at its lower end to form two connections e with the boiler. The tubes are arranged in nests and manholes g, h are provided in the shell opposite the spaces be, tween the nests. In a horizontal boiler the inlet flue tube 6 opens into the upper part of a smoke-box at the rear of the boiler shell and the nest of tubes 9, 11 are arranged below the flue tube.
