Abstract
638,862. Wind musical instruments. SOMERVILLE, J., (trading as RENO ELECTRICAL & ENGINEERING CO.). Jan. 12, 1946, No. 26676/45. [Class 88 (ii)] A saxophone or similar instrument has the whole of the operating mechanism mounted inside a detachable cover so as to be removable with the cover. In the embodiment described the tone holes are located in detachable flat strips 6, Fig. 6, which may incorporate a gasket of the type described in Specification 636,244, these extending down the front of the instrument and up the inner side of the bell. The valves open inwards and are mounted on levers 8 having transverse pivots in upstanding lugs 9 and carrying rollers 11 which are engaged by cams 15. The cams are carried on spindles 16 rotatable in bearing lugs 16a secured to the inside of a slotted cover 7, Fig. 1 (not shown). The keys operating these spindles are secured to them at points suitable for convenient fingering and, for simplicity in construction, some spindles may be made hollow and run concentrically with others.
