Abstract
637,064. Embossing. SCOTTS ENGINEERING (NEWPORT), Ltd., and BURDIN, N. V. May 3, 1948, No. 12026. [Class 100 (ii)] [Also in Group XVII] In a bottle-capping machine, a metal foil embossing mechanism, which also provides for the feeding of the foil forward to the capping head of the machine, is characterized by a bodypart slidably mounted with respect to the capping head and adapted to receive the foil, an embossing die disposed on said body-part and a plunger co-operating with the die to effect the embossing and to grip the foil to pass it to the capping head. In the form shown, the mechanism consists in a block 8 slidably mounted with respect to the capping head and having a slot 10 which receives the foil and forms two jaws, the lower carrying a die 16 and the upper a plunger 18 having a leather pad 19 at its lower end. The upper part of plunger 18 is connected by a lever 20 to a rack 22 adapted to be driven up and down by a pinion 24 adjustably secured to a shaft 25 which is given a part-rotary motion by the driving mechanism of the machine. The sequence of operations of the embossing mechanism are synchronized with those of the other parts of the machine by a series of connected cams in the machine (see Group XVII).
