Abstract
635,272. Wheels for vehicles. FRECHET, G. Jan. 6, 1947, No. 458. Convention date, Feb. 27, 1946. [Class 144 (i)] A resilient wheel wherein the hub 1 and the rim 2 are connected to one another by a series of piston and cylinder elements, the pistons 11 and the cylinders 13 being respectively pivotally connected to the rim and the hub, has spring- operated articulated systems arranged independently of the piston and cylinder elements with their springs parallel with the rim 2. Fig. 1 shows diamond-shaped articulated systems formed by flat steel bars 16 mounted between swivels 17 on the hub 1 and swivels 18 on the rim 2, with springs 19 arranged between the other joints 20, 21. Fig. 2 shows an alternative arrangement comprising pairs of circumferential springs 22, 22a fixed at one end to a Y-shaped member 23 secured to the rim 2 and at the other end to members 25 which are pivotally connected to the rim 2 and have a slotted connection 27 at the hub 1. The articulated systems are arranged on both faces of the wheel. Spring or fluid pressure damping means may be employed in the piston and cylinder elements 11, 13.
