Abstract

634,881. Incandescent stoves : vapour burners. LANGFORD, A. E., CHEESE, P. C., and CHEESE, P. A. Sept. 2, 1947, No. 24216. [Classes 75 (i) and 126] A stove in which liquid fuel is supplied under air pressure has a vaporizing tube parallel to, above and a little behind a horizontal burner tube to which it is connected, a woven asbestos radiant mantle being provided having faces parallel to the burner tube, one extending down to the burner tube and the other to the vaporizing tube. Fuel from a reservoir 1 is supplied under air pressure through a control valve to a vaporizing tube 17 which is arranged parallel to, above and to the rear of a burner tube 6. A U-loop 14 is arranged at one end within a flange 18 disposed around one end of the vaporizing tube 17 in order to carry vapour from the vaporizing tube 17 to the burner tube 6. The vaporizing tube 17 and the burner tube 6 are supported on the fuel reservoir by means of end plates 5. A control valve is operated by rotating a knob 28 which causes a slide 25 to move a spring-controlled ball 23, opening or closing the valve. A wire 29 connected at one end to the slide 25 has a piercing needle 32 which, when the controlling valve is closed, is used to clean and plug an orifice in a disc 22 closing the vaporizing tube 17 at the end adjacent the U-loop 14. A metal plate 36 is hung on the vaporizing tube 17 and carries a trough 38 which lodges against the burner tube 6, liquid fuel in the trough being used to preheat the vaporizing tube 17. A radiant of woven asbestos in the form of a rectangular prism is secured in position by supports 33 attached to the end plates 5. A box-like reflector open at the front is arranged round the radiant, a front plate being placed outside the front edges of the reflector. The burner 6 is provided with a burner box 13. According to the Provisional Specification the burner tube 6 is provided with nipples covered by wire gauze domes and the radiant is closed at the top.
