Abstract

634,439. Typewriters. JELINEK, K. Oct. 10, 1946, No. 30293. [Class 100 (iv)] In a typewriter wherein spacing movement of the paper-feed carriage is varied in accordance with the width of the character being typed, each key-lever 1 carries two stops 7, 8 coacting with projections 15, 16 on pivoted levers 5, 6 adapted to actuate a carriage-feeding mechanism 4. The lever 1 actuates either lever 5 or 6, according to which projection is operative, the projections being mounted on pivoted rods 9, 10 rocked by links 12, 13 from a case shiftlever 11. On depression of a key 14 to type a lower-case letter, projection 16 is engaged, transmitting a small, angular movement to the carriage-feeding mechanism 4. When a capital is to be typed, shift-key 17 is depressed, whereupon projection 15 is engaged, thus transmitting a greater movement to the carriage. Where a lower-case character takes more space than normal, or a capital takes less space than normal, the stops 7 and 8 are greater or smaller in depth respectively, thus varying the angular movement of the levers 5, 6.
