Abstract
634,322. Drying cloth. DUNGLER, J. May 15, 1947, Nos. 13168 and 13169. Convention dates, May 23, 1946, and July 18, 1946. [Class 34(i)] Cloth is dried in contact with a heated drum, hot air also being blown on to the cloth from nozzles arranged concentrically around the exterior of the drum. As shown, a steam-heated drum 1 is surrounded by an insulating casing 6 forming a frame and into which the cloth 7 enters by a slit, contacts the heated drum and leaves by another slit, 9, 10, 11, 12 being guide rollers and 13 a folding device. Concentrically grouped about the drum are nozzles 14 which may be telescopic, and each of which acts in the widthwise direction of the cloth 7, the orifices opening near the face of the cloth. Air heated by a heater 16 is supplied to the nozzles by a fan 15. In a modification the periphery of the drum 1 is perforated and the fans 15 produce a vacuum in the drum by means of a suction manifold surrounding the shaft of the drum, the air thus sucked in being driven into the nozzles 14. The heating of the drum is in this case performed by the hot air passing through it and the width of the suction effect can be adjusted by the movement of plates inside the drum and fixed on screwthreaded rods.
