Abstract

633,857. Fuel injectors. KAMMER, I. G. Jan. 27, 1947, No. 2534. [Class 7 (iii)] Fuel from an injection pump connected at 43 and through passage 23 to a space 62 in an injector first forces down an injector plunger 50 to open the spring-pressed injector valve 5, when pilot injection fuel flows through grooves 52, 53 to a space 29 and through a groove 6 to an orifice or orifices 8, and the main injection takes place when a control plunger 55, normally connecting the spray passage 20 to a relief space 39 through passages 56, 58, is raised to uncover a port 49. The passage 20 leads to an annular groove 14 connected by holes 10 to the main injection grooves 7 leading to injection orifices 9. The force of the spring 40, adjustable by an abutment 42, is greater than that of the spring 18 loading the valve 5 so that the plunger 50 is moved down before plunger 55 is raised. Fuel seeping past the valve stem 5 is collected in a groove 15 and returned to the relief space 39, the lower part of the stem 5 being lubricated by colloidal graphite. The nozzle may be. fixed to the cylinder head by flanges integral with the holder 1. Specification 582,783 is referred to.
