[Class 132 (i)] A hare carriage for a greyhound racing track is provided with a rearwardly. extending spigot in advance of which is a transversely extending notched bolt, a cylinder on which the hare may be mounted and which is adapted to receive the spigot and has therein a coiled spring, and an arm on the cylinder adapted to be engaged by the bolt when the cylinder has been slidden on the spigot to compress the spring, the arm passing through the notch of the bolt when the bolt is in one position and being engaged by the bolt when it is in a second position. Figs. 1 and 3 show the part of the carriage a by which the hare is moved which has at its top a spigot b and at its bottom a housing c for a transverse bolt d with head f and grooved peripherally at e; a spring g urges the bolt laterally to a. The hare structure includes a cylinder h in which is a coiled spring and at the ends of the cylinder are arms o and p on which the hare may be mounted ; the arm p extends downwardly at q to an extent greater than the distance between the axis of the spigot b and the periphery of the bolt d but less than the distance between the axis and the bottom of the groove e. The two parts are assembled as shown in Fig. 21 : the bolt d is pressed back against the spring g, the cylinder h is slidden along the spigot b thus compressing the spring j until the end of the arm q is in advance of the bolt d; thus when the bolt d is released the end of the arm q will be engaged. To release the hare from its carriage, a framework through which the carriage passes on its circuit round the track is described. This framework engages and forces back the head f of the bolt, whereby the cylinder h is released to the action of its spring j and ejected rearwardly from the part a.
