Abstract

632,554. Making paper bags. BOON, J. W. Dec. 29, 1947, No. 34497. Convention date, Sept. 2, 1946. [Class 94(ii)] A bag making machine includes means for attaching a closure tape adapted to be wound around the projecting stem of a button, the bags being made from a web of paper which is formed into a tube and then severed into bag lengths. To the tape b, which is fed along with the paper web a, adhesive is applied intermittently 'by a sector wheel c, the tape being thereafter secured to the web by means of a pair of rollers f, f<SP>1</SP>. The trailing ends of the unadhered portions of the tape are severed by cutting means g. Closure buttons n are secured to the seam of the bag tube by means j. The tube is severed by a beater bar k at the leading ends of the unadhered portions of the tape, thereby leaving said portions projecting from the mouths of the bags. In a modification the tape is fed between a pair of webs which are formed into double ply bags.
