1,153,738. Carrier bags. ATELIERS DE CONSTRUCTIONS M•CANIQUES C. & A. HOLWEG S.a.r.l. 14 Nov., 1966 [21 Oct., 1966], No. 50836/66. Heading A4G. A process for manufacturing bags e.g. of paper, with two flat handles by a combination of bag-making and handle-making machines operating continuously, comprises providing transverse perforation lines in an open, unwinding strip of bag material 1, Fig. 4; forming handles on drums, laterally displaceable for bag width, from paper strip folded to form end strands 12, Fig. 3; directing the strands at 14 into the direction of advance of the bag material and depositing and glueing the handles 10 on the material by rollers conforming to the speed of the travelling bag material; blowing air on the end strands to ensure correct and flat positioning of the strands; the provision of a mandrel 6 forming the bag material into a tube and having a guide 9 facilitating the contact of handles and material and a slot 7 facilitating passage of the handles, and rollers tensioning and separating the tube at the perforations into bag lengths.
