Abstract
2 : 3 : 4-Triamino-pyridine is obtained by nitrating 2 : 4-dihydroxy-pyridine, treating the product with phosphorus oxychloride to give 2 : 4-dichloro-3-nitro-pyridine, replacing the chlorine atoms by amino groups with ammonia (preferably alcoholic) and finally reducing the nitro group to an amino group. The reduction is preferably effected with aqueous sodium sulphide. The product may be converted into the picrate and the dehydrochloride, from which the free base is regenerated with ammonia. 2 : 4-Dihydroxy-pyridine is obtained by condensing acetone dicarboxylic acid diethyl ester with ethyl orthoformate and ammonia in the presence of acetic anhydride with subsequent saponification and decarboxylation.
