Abstract
629,249. Knitting-machines. FIDELITY MACHINE CO., Inc. March 4, 1946, No. 6669. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1943. [Class 74 (ii)] To permit of rib knitting, without the use of take-up weights, the dial needles 2 are made straight; and each is maintained in position in its slot by a bowed strip-metal " presser " 1, having at its outer end a loop holding-down finger 4. The finger is advanced to overlie the dial loop, during transfer to a cylinder needle 6, and prevents that needle, if misaligned, from so lifting the loop that it could be caught on the point of the dial needle latch 5, or pass over it and be caught on the dial needle hook; the edge 4a constrains the outwardlymoving loop to pass under the free end of and close the dial needle latch. Bevel 4c provides clearance for the inward passage of the loop and directs it under the finger; shoulder 4b limits inward movement of the loop; bevel 4d eliminates a corner on which the loop might catch and prevents it becoming pinched between the adjacent faces of " presser " and needle. The dial needles are formed with concavities 13.
