Abstract
664,964. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO. June 17, 1949 [June 24, 1948], No. 16225/49. Class 74 (ii). To assist in guiding the needles of the lower cylinder into their slots in the upper cylinder of a superposed-cylinder machine an extension 6 is provided on the lower end of the upper cylinder and has needle slots 7 in alignment with those in the upper cylinder. The depth of the slots 7 in this extension is equivalent to about half the thickness of the needle stems so that any interference with the needle hook engaging the yarn is avoided. The walls 8 between the slots 7 are bevelled as are also their lower ends so that if one needle is out of line the bevelled edges of the walls 8 tend to direct two needles into the same slot. The shallowness of the slots 7, however, ensure that the intruding needle will be forced out of this slot into its correct one. Specification 536,201 is referred to.
